Proposed Itineraries and Routes for Driving to the 2008 Healey Conclave

Here are a couple proposed driving itineraries for travel to the 2008 Conclave in San Diego this summer that John Wilson and I have traded with one another. Nothing has been decided yet and there’s a bit of time to discuss alternatives. Our return could be via the same route, up I-5, or up the east side of the Sierras via I-15 and US395. Let John or I know if you have any other ideas.

From John:

  • Day 1: (Thursday, June 26th): Eugene to Eureka, via the coast at Reedsport (330 miles).
  • Day 2 : Eureka to Santa Cruz (350 miles).
  • Day 3: Santa Cruz to Ventura via Hwy 1 through Big Sur (310 miles).
  • Day 4: (Sunday, June 29): Ventura to San Diego via I-210 and I-15 (235 miles).

An alternative would be to stop at Crescent City the 1st day (250 miles), Santa Rosa on the 2nd day (300 miles), San Luis Obispo on the 3rd day (300 miles) and then on to San Diego (370 miles).

From Jeff:

  • Day 1: (Wednesday, June 25th): Salem to Brookings (300 miles).
  • Day 2: Brookings to Santa Rosa, CA (325 miles).
  • Day 3: Santa Rosa to Monterey, CA (170 miles) – providing time to visit the aquarium and give your butt a break.
  • Day 4: Monterey to Ventura (275 miles) via Big Sur coast – could meet John’s group from here South.
  • Day 5: (Sunday, June 29): Ventura to San Diego via I-210 and I-15 (235 miles).

2008 Austin Healey Northwest Meet Planned for Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia

September 18, 2008toSeptember 21, 2008

The Austin Healey Owners Association of British Columbia is pleased to be hosting the 2008 Northwest Meet from September 18-21, 2008. We are following the example set at Astoria and Silverdale with a four day informal meet, and have selected Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. as the venue.

How to get there: Harrison Hot Springs is located in the Fraser Valley, in southern B.C., at the head of Harrison Lake. This is a beautiful and scenic venue with lots to do and see while we are there. It can be reached easily from the United States by entering Canada at Lynden/Aldergrove (Washington 539) or at Sumas/Huntingdon (Washington 9) crossings. Both crossings quickly lead you to Canada Highway1 Eastbound, which will take you to BC 9, about a 30 minute run. From there it is a short, scenic drive to Harrison.

If you are coming from the lower mainland, proceed east on Highway 1 and exit at Highway 9 and proceed North to Harrison Hot Springs, or proceed East on the Lougheed Highway and proceed North on Highway 9 at Agassiz.

From the Interior of BC, you have the choice of Highway 1 westbound, exiting at Highway 9 northbound, or alternatively taking Highway 7 westbound off Highway 1 at Hope and proceeding North on Highway 9 at Agassiz. We recommend that our US friends determine their applicable reentry requirements to the United States, in advance, from Homeland Security.

Host Hotel: The venue we have selected is the Harrison Beach Hotel, located at 160 Esplanade Avenue, Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. They can be reached by calling toll free 1.866.338.8111, and when you call, ask for the Austin Healey preferred rate for the Meet of $129.00 per night. (CDN).

Events: Meet events are in the planning stage, and will be forwarded to the clubs in the coming months. We hope that you will make the trip and that you will have a great time with us in British Columbia!Contacts: Brian Drab brian_drab@infoserve.net or Don Manning bn7@shaw.ca
