AHCO Completes Another ABFM – Mark Schneider

There are two sports car events I look forward to each year, the Historic Races in July and the All British Field Meet on Labor Day weekend.  For the Healey Club the second one is a huge job.  And, there is much of the event planning and implementation that I am not yet familiar with.  All I have contributed is helping to count the ballots and handing out the awards at the end of the process. This year the effort on Saturday went very smoothly due to the efforts of President Jeff Mach and a group of club volunteers.  It was clear that Jeff had put a good deal of thought into the tasks.  At 10:00 AM Saturday morning he briefed us on the forthcoming challenge.  The team launched with Larry Clemenson serving as a runner retrieving the ballots while the rest of us counted the votes.  By 2:00 PM the deed was done and that was even after a lunch break arranged by Jeff.  Besides the “free” lunch the volunteers were awarded a classy looking dark maroon T-shirt.  The team included: Jerry and Pat Barron, George Koeber, Bob Wallace, Ken Parcher, Linda Adams, Jim & Kaye Maguire, Tom & Cecelia Magnusson, Alan Gross & son, Ric Curry, Skip Monaco, Kym Randolph & Larry Clemenson, Jeff & Dawn Mach, and me.  Doug Auburg helped with award presentations. While all this was going on Carole Trenko & Jaci Koeber ran the AHCO regalia booth.  The AHCO owes these folks a big “Thank you”.

Next year will come along soon enough.  The vote counting task will be there again and the ABFM committee will be asking for volunteers to help.  If this is a project you have not participated in I urge each member give it some thought.  Sure, it is work but we all had fun working with our club-mates, had lunch together, got a T-shirt, contributed to the success of the ABFM, and the AHCO coffers will be healthier for haiving done it.  Try it, you’ll like it.

Good welder/muffler person – John Carter

I have been trying for some time to find a good welder/muffler person.

No one seemed to be able to help.

After stopping at several auto parts stores I finally asked at Baxter’s and they said to try A-1 Muffler. After talking to the owner, Lee at A-1 I returned with my Bugeye. He had the proper “cherry-bomb” type of muffler I was looking for and did a great job of re-routing the pipe and welding it in place. He even raised it higher and shortened the rear tip exposure to the right length.

His price was quite reasonable. He has only been in business there 6 months so he is probably not well known around the area. I would recommend to anyone who needs exhaust work or welding to try A-1. The address is 8970 SW Barbur Blvd., 503-452-6853. I have no financial interest in this company.  Click photos for large views.

Three Big Healeys fill the top five places – Doug Escriva

The results are in, 3 Big Healeys fill the top 5 places in the 24 car rain soaked field. Doug Escriva (me) takes his first podium spot with 2nd overall, Richard Mayor 4th, and Dave Phillips 5th. This grueling 20 minute sprint took place in the heaviest rain showers of the day. Wet and exhausted after the race my hard topped Healey was ready for more action.

2008 Austin Healey Northwest Meet Planned for Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia

September 18, 2008toSeptember 21, 2008

The Austin Healey Owners Association of British Columbia is pleased to be hosting the 2008 Northwest Meet from September 18-21, 2008. We are following the example set at Astoria and Silverdale with a four day informal meet, and have selected Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. as the venue.

How to get there: Harrison Hot Springs is located in the Fraser Valley, in southern B.C., at the head of Harrison Lake. This is a beautiful and scenic venue with lots to do and see while we are there. It can be reached easily from the United States by entering Canada at Lynden/Aldergrove (Washington 539) or at Sumas/Huntingdon (Washington 9) crossings. Both crossings quickly lead you to Canada Highway1 Eastbound, which will take you to BC 9, about a 30 minute run. From there it is a short, scenic drive to Harrison.

If you are coming from the lower mainland, proceed east on Highway 1 and exit at Highway 9 and proceed North to Harrison Hot Springs, or proceed East on the Lougheed Highway and proceed North on Highway 9 at Agassiz.

From the Interior of BC, you have the choice of Highway 1 westbound, exiting at Highway 9 northbound, or alternatively taking Highway 7 westbound off Highway 1 at Hope and proceeding North on Highway 9 at Agassiz. We recommend that our US friends determine their applicable reentry requirements to the United States, in advance, from Homeland Security.

Host Hotel: The venue we have selected is the Harrison Beach Hotel, located at 160 Esplanade Avenue, Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. They can be reached by calling toll free 1.866.338.8111, and when you call, ask for the Austin Healey preferred rate for the Meet of $129.00 per night. (CDN).

Events: Meet events are in the planning stage, and will be forwarded to the clubs in the coming months. We hope that you will make the trip and that you will have a great time with us in British Columbia!Contacts: Brian Drab brian_drab@infoserve.net or Don Manning bn7@shaw.ca
