Doug Escriva’s race car during the HMSA Portland Historic Races. It features a nice duel between Rich Thomas in his ‘56 100-4M and Doug in his ‘57 100-6MM. Doug got him in the end yuk, yuk.
I received the following email from Tim Baxter, online editor of Classicmotorsports and Grassroots Motorsports magazines:
I saw you all posted a link to the SU story we have up… glad you liked it!
I wanted to also let you know, we have a really nice Austin-Healey story coming up in the January issue, about a Big Healey that came back to the original owners family after 20 years. The January issue also comes with the 2009 Calendar, which features Healeys on two different months. If you, or anyone in your club, would like a free issue, just go to http://classicmotorsports.net/try/ah136/ by December 15 to get the January issue. Also, watch for a nice Big Healey buyers guide online. I should have that posted tomorrow. [Update: Which it is - Jeff]
Thanks for the heads up Tim.
Bill Bolton sent the following announcement from Roger Moment:
Obtaining Concours Guidelines
Update for 2009
Roger Moment
October, 2008
There are some important changes regarding the Concours Guidelines for next year.
1. George Marinos, who has served as the Concours Committee Treasurer and contact for purchasing copies of both the Big Healey and Sprite Guidelines, has decided to step down after many years of service in this capacity. He has done a terrific job and we will all miss working with him.
2. The new person to contact to purchase copies from is:
Mike Osipik
39 East 55th Terrace
Kansas City, MO 64113 USA
mikeosipik@eartlink.net
816-333-2506
3. The Guidelines will now be supplied on CD – no more hard copy. This format will allow us to incorporate more color photographs, and greatly reduce the price.
4. The new price structure for either the Big Healey or Sprite Guidelines, including postage, will be:
• USA: $20
• Canada & Mexico: $25
• All other countries: $27
If you wish to purchase both the Sprite and Big Healey versions at the same time, the additional cost for the second CD disk will just be $15 – no additional postage.
As in the past, Guidelines copies are for the use of the purchaser only, and not to be sold or otherwise distributed.
Finally, many owners of Healeys, beyond just those preparing cars for Concours, might also consider obtaining copies, as they hold a wealth of information that can help you determine items that are correct, or not, for your car. Many components often have been changed over time, and the more correct/original a car is when it is offered for sale, the better it will be received by prospective buyers, and the higher a price it should bring. It also is easier (and thus less costly) for mechanics to trouble-shoot and repair a car where items are as-expected/original (based on shop manuals or parts lists). And you may find things that you don’t think are correct may indeed be so, or even decide that you want to pick up for your car that odd tool or NOS bit you come across at swap meets.
If you are a member of the Austin Healey Club of Oregon you can request a username and password to the member only portion of this website by emailing bob_j_wallace@hotmail.com and requesting access.
Once you receive your username and password you can log into the site by following these steps:
1. There are two links on the home page to access the login page. You can use either one to login. One is on the left side of the page under the “home” tab. Click on the “Login” link.
The other is on the left side of the home page under the sidebar heading “Do Something”. Again, simply click on the word “Login” to go to the login page.
2. After clicking on the “login” you are sent to a page with a login form (username, password):
Enter your username and password into the form and click the “Log In” button. If you have forgotten your password you can click the link below the login form to have your password reset. The system will send you an email with instructions for resetting it. If you have forgotten you username you will need to send an email to bob_j_wallace@hotmail.com asking Bob to tell you “who you are”.
3. If you are successful logging in ( if you are not, send bob an email asking for help) you will be taken to the home page where you will see your name in a welcome message near the top of the page. Next to your name is a link “dashboard”. Click that link to be taken to your “Dashboard” page that looks like:
There is a bunch of stuff below this that you really don’t need to pay attention to. At this point there are two actions you can take. One is to click back to the home page (now logged in) by clicking the “Visit Site” button as illustrated above. This button is right of the club name in the header of the page.
The other option is to go to your user profile. Here you can change your password, update your email address if it has changed, add biographical information, manage your “subscriptions” that notify you when new posts have been made. Updating your profile will be a topic of another post.
Thanks,
Bob
