Saturday, August 7th: Two meeting places: departing from Southcenter/Westfield Mall Starbucks at

8 AM or meet in Morton at the Seasons Motel with departure at 11 AM.

Phil and Beckie Daniels will lead us on a tour to Mt. St. Helens Windy Ridge Visitor Center. If you have not been to this viewing point, it is great. The drive is about 35 miles of winding paved two lane roads virtually on the side of the mountains. The viewpoint is closer to the mountain than the Johnson Ridge one and about the same elevation. Bring binoculars. The park service provides a 25 minute talk about the eruption and takes questions.

What to bring: binoculars, a picnic lunch (lunch will be about 1 PM), your park pass or $5.00 for the entry to the park, water, drinks, hand sanitizer (outhouse facilities only), litterbag, sun hat and /or umbrella for shade (there is no shade).

BBQ Dinner will be at Phil and Beckie’s home near Onalaska at 6 PM.

Phil and Beckie will supply the main course.

What you bring:

Your own drink–alcohol is acceptable.

A thru E salad or bread

F thru K vegetable or appetizers

L thru P potato or pasta

Q thru Z dessert

Sunday August 8th:

Train ride out of Elbe. Departing the Seasons Motel at 9 AM, arrive at Elbe at 10 AM for the train Ride.

Plans for this year’s All British Field Meet are proceeding apace and it’s now time to start signing up volunteers to count the Popular Choice votes on Saturday.  We need about 20 people for the task, which will occur between 10:30am and 2:00pm.  This year, it’s especially important to volunteer if you attend the Meet, because unfortunately, I’m expecting we’ll be without several members who have volunteered in the past.  If you haven’t actively worked for the Club lately, this is a good opportunity to do so without a lot of pain or stress.  And, for your efforts, we’ll provide you with lunch and cold drinks, and a coveted ABFM Worker Bee t-shirt.  If the weather is like it was last year (heaven forbid), you’ll have a dry spot to hang out, and if it’s broiling outside, you’ll be in the shade.  How can you lose?  The ABFM is one of the Club’s largest annual income sources, but it depends on us doing our jobs to make the ABFM happen.  Please sign up to volunteer by leaving a comment to this post, at the Club meeting on Saturday, or email or call Jeff Mach (details in the Club directory).  Don’t forget to tell me what size t-shirt you want.  Remember, ABFM registrations are being posted on the website, so I know whether you plan to attend.  Don’ make me send Guido over to visit you next month if you don’t also sign up to volunteer.  Thanks.

This is a joint tour with the Cascade Club.  We will meet at the Burger King at Delta Park @8:30 a.m. with departure at 9:00.  We will tour to Morton, Washington where we will meet the Cascade Club.  You will want to bring a picnic lunch for our lunch break.  We will have a short meeting during the lunch stop.  At the end of the tour we will arrive at Phil and Becky Daniel’s for a pot luck dinner.  Please bring a dinner course as shown:  Last name A-E bring Salad or Bread; F-K bring Vegetable or Appetizers; L-P bring Potato or Pasta; Q-Z bring Dessert.  Bring your own drinks.

We will meet at John & Judy Carter’s house at 16173 S.W. Dekalb St., Tigard, at 8:30 a.m.  The tour will start at 9:00.  We will tour to Bald Peak State Park where we will enjoy the view with coffee and “sweets”.  From there we will  tour to Carlton where we will have a picnic at Wennerberg Park where we will play and compete in some “lawn games”.  The meeting will be at 2:30.  You may bring your own picnic lunch or you may purchase lunch at the nearby Deli in Carlton.  Directions to the Carter’s home – Hwy 99 to Bull Mountain Rd. to 161^st  Ave.  Turn East to Dekalb, turn right on Dekalb to address.  Call if you get lost (503) 579-6599.
