How To Receive Emails of New Postings

Many members have been asking about how they can get an email whenever there is a new posting on the website. Follow these steps to make it happen:

1.  Go to the AHCO website and login with your password.

2.  At the top of the page next to your name, click “Dashboard”.

3.  Under Profile scroll down to “Update Profile”(in blue) and click on it.

4.  Under Profile, user update, scroll down to “Email Preferences” at the bottom of the page and check both boxes.

5.  Click “Update Profile”(in blue) under the boxes.

You will now receive an email any time a new post is entered on the website.

You can further specify what types of posts you want to be emailed by clicking the “subscriptions” link in the left hand column.

Select the “subscribe catagories”  you wish to be notified on and then click the “Update Preferences” button.

Minor change to login process

I have updated the login process.  The login form now is displayed in the site’s theme (instead of a “wordpress” theme.)  I have added text to the login reminding members that if they have forgotten their account username, they can email me and ask that I send it to them.  Remember, in order to see all of the site content you must log in. Click the read more link for more information on changes to the login process and how to make it easier.

Once you log in, you will be sent to the home page of the site, instead of your ‘dashboard”.  If you want to go to your “dashboard”, for example to update your profile, or change your password, you can get there by going to the home page of the site and click the “dashboard” link that is after your account name.

Some members have commented that it is too difficult to remember how to log in.  Most internet browsers have a feature called “auto complete” that will remember the username and password on the login form.  By enabling this feature, once  you have logged in, the browser will automatically fill in the username and password on the form so you will not have to remember it.  Below are some links that explain how to turn on this feature.

For Firefox 3, click the “Edit” – “Preferences” menu. Go to the “security” tab and check the “Remember passwords for sites”

Receiving email notifications of new postings

Members can manage their “subscriptions” to email notifications, selecting which categories that they want to receive email notices from.

Go to the site and log in.  On the dashboard page that you are sent to upon log in you will see a “profile” tab on the left column.  Expand it (if it isn’t already) and click on the subscriptions link.  On the subscriptions page select the categories you wish to be notified about.  You can select all if you want.  Also I recommend that the settings be for “plain text”,  auto subscribe to new categories, and view excerpt only.

You should also check your email address on the “your profile” link.  The notices might be getting sent to an incorrect email address.

New title for the site

Since the site will be taking over the role of the club newletter “Healey Northwest” starting in January, I have renamed the site to “Healey Northwest”.

How To: Login to the site

If you are a member of the Austin Healey Club of Oregon you can request a username and password to the member only portion of this website by emailing bob_j_wallace@hotmail.com and requesting access.

Once you receive your username and password you can log into the site by following these steps:

1. There are two links on the home page to access the login page. You can use either one to login.  One is on the left side of the page under the “home” tab. Click on the “Login” link.

The other is on the left side of the home page under the sidebar heading “Do Something”. Again, simply click on the word “Login” to go to the login page.

2. After clicking on the “login” you are sent to a page with a login form (username, password):

Enter your username and password into the form and click the “Log In” button. If you have forgotten your password you can click the link below the login form to have your password reset. The system will send you an email with instructions for resetting it. If you have forgotten you username you will need to send an email to bob_j_wallace@hotmail.com asking Bob to tell you “who you are”.

3. If you are successful logging in ( if you are not, send bob an email asking for help) you will be taken to the home page where you will see your name in a welcome message near the top of the page.  Next to your name is a link “dashboard”.  Click that link to be taken to your “Dashboard” page that looks like:

There is a bunch of stuff below this that you really don’t need to pay attention to. At this point there are two actions you can take. One is to click back to the home page (now logged in) by clicking the “Visit Site” button as illustrated above. This button is right of the club name in the header of the page.

The other option is to go to your user profile. Here you can change your password, update your email address if it has changed, add biographical information, manage your “subscriptions” that notify you when new posts have been made. Updating your profile will be a topic of another post.

Thanks,

Bob
